The Legal Aid Agency has introduced a new form, “Claim for payment of costs following detailed assessment in civil and family cases (CIV CLAIM 1C)”, for completion on the submission of claims subject to detailed assessment by the court. The form also applies to civil applications arising from criminal applications.

The use of the form is not mandatory at the present time but it may be made mandatory in the future. Guidance on how to complete the form is available along with a checklist of requirements.  Mandatory checks remain the same as for the claim 1 and the claim 1A.

The aim is to include the form in the next master pack update but in the meantime it is already available on www.gov.uk website.

The Legal Aid Agency has also updated its “civil claims rates calculator” and introduced an “escape case rates calculator” for civil certificated work in immigration, mental health and escape cases, both of which are intended to help caseworkers and providers check that the rate being claimed is correct.  The links to the website above also additional information in relation to how to the calculators work in practice.
